I love connecting with the story of a place. Learning how it came to be and who made it so. This kind of time travel informs us with the meanings and the soul of the places we find ourselves in.
Exploring the old Butterfield Trail on motorcycles had such a logic to it. The senses were filled with the beauty and rhythms of the open road and the sights and sounds carry you through the thin veil that separates us from the past.
I am so grateful to my brother Paul for inspiring me with his sense of adventure. Without his curiosity I would still be asking, "Who the hell cares about the Butterfield?"
He is also the one who supplied us both with motorcycles.
